The wrong type of help is often damaging because the child makes no progress and it reinforces their belief that that they are stupid. It’s vital that any teacher working with a dyslexic child has been trained in one of the following methods: Orton-Gillingham influenced methods – Wilson, Barton and Take Flight are three well know teaching programs that have a proven record of success. But hiring a private tutor can be costly ranging from $40-$100 and hour. Even finding a qualified tutor can be a challenge because there just aren’t enough.
